watering a new birch in November #921667

I had a 15 gal emerald flare birch planted the first part of August 2025. I watered it daily with hose until tree gator arrived. Then I watered weekly through October. Now that the temps have dropped, how often and how much should I water? The last watering was 10 gallons via tree gator on November 5th. With the hard freezes over the next 2-3 nights and low highs, I am not watering. I live in the Twin Cities.

Expert Response
When temperatures stay above about 40°F and the ground is not frozen, water slowly and deeply about once a month through the winter if there has been no precipitation. If temps are below that level, don't water as the ground will not be able to absorb the moisture. You've mulched around the base of the tree and that will help hold in the moisture.
