For the final cut of the year, the ideal grass height is around 2 to 2.5 inches. Turfgrass specialists recommend that once the grass's top growth has essentially stopped for the season, you can lower the mowing height no more than one notch on your mower (typically about a half inch) for the final mow. This height can reduce the risk of snow mold, discourage voles (field mice), and help the grass tolerate the cold temperatures. Check out the following link:
