Maple Trees #921391

Asked November 04, 2025, 1:42 PM EST

I removed ash trees that were infected with the emerald ash borer and found maple trees growing amongst them. What type of maple these trees are these - sugar maples? Will they spread out? They are fairly straights, except one, but do not have many branches. Will these trees fill out with more branches? Any idea how much of a spread that the maple will be? I am going to plant additional maples along the tree line to replace the ash trees that were removed and am trying to figure out how many to plant and how far apart. I appreciate your insights - I am going to go look at some trees today and possible purchase them

Expert Response

Yes, with more sunlight those trees will fill out over the next few years. I don't have enough information to identify what variety they are. Take a leaf to the nursery and they will be able to identify them.

Spacing for planting new trees will be determined by the stated mature width of the tree variety.
