When is the best time to water blue leaf Hostas? #919722

Someone gave me some hosta, I believe they are blue leaf. I transplanted them on the south side of the property. They get a combination of sun and shade because of the trees. With the cool mornings, some hovering just above freezing, when is the best time of the day to water them? Should I cover them for the winter?

You should water them in the morning so the leaves have a chance to dry out before evening However, soon they will freeze and those leaves will be replaced by new ones next spring. After the ground is frozen, you could put some mulch over them this first winter. After that, they do not need to be mulched as they are hardy in this zone and new leaves will appear the following spring
