The first thing to determine is, what soil you want to test and what you want it tested for? If you want to test lawn or flower beds for pH and nutrient levels, I would guide you one way. However, if you want to test soil for heavy metals, I would refer you to a different process. Let me know, and I can provide some further instruction.

Because you are testing for a school garden, I would recommend that you test for pH, nutrients, and heavy metals. You never know when a parent will ask if you tested, and it's nice to have the information on file. Right now, we are accepting soil samples at the extension office to be tested at the OSU soil lab. More details here, https://summit.osu.edu/news/send-your-soil-sample-osus-soil-lab. Last day to drop the soil is Saturday, Nov 1st.
If you only wanted the pH and nutrients, we typically recommend working with Penn State. You can purchase a soil test kit from our office for 15$, then you send it to Penn State with an additional $10 for testing. https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/hyg-1132
The most important thing is to get the test done by a certified lab, not a test kit purchased on the web or from home improvement stores. The factsheet above has a list of public and private certified labs.
