I live in the country and the deer are being excessively aggressive this year in eating my flowers. I've done a little research and see that there are various options. I live on 16 acres so fencing is not viable. Scented sprays or Irish spring soap has to be constantly re-applied. I am intrigued by electronic devices and motion sensing sprinklers. But thought I'd ask you folks to see what's most effective and easy to use.

Total exclusion (fencing) from such a large area within deer habitat would be cost-prohibitive, as you have mentioned. However you could physically exclude (caging) herbivory on specific beds or plants. Motion-sensing sprinklers can be very effective in a very localized area, require a hose to each one, and require careful siting. Even in urban settings aided by buildings and fences, water "scarecrows" can be defeated by observant deer once they clue out where they can sneak by the spray. A product used by foresters in re-planted stands, Plantskydd, could provide some protection over a longer - but not endless - period.
