Winter Squash- Can I start it? #907937

Hi,
I bought two French varieties of Winter Squash ( Sucrine Du Berry AND Galeux D' Eysines) that'll probably take a week to get here ( Gaithersburg) Can I start them around the first or second week of July? I really want to try but if there is little to no chance of a successful harvest I would like to know my chances
Thanks!

We suggest that you wait and plant them next spring because the fruits will unlikely grow well and mature this late in the season. You can certainly plant a few seeds this year but the outcome may be disappointing. Factors impacting growth will be sunlight, soil quality, temperature, rainfall/watering, fertilizing, potential insect/animal damage, etc.
These varieties require 90-100 days to mature after sowing. Due to reduced heat and sunlight in September/October, add 2 weeks more time.
