Should I apply pelletized lime to soil near tomatoes? What are inexpensive ingredients for fertilizing cucumbers? Thank you.

Thank you for reaching out.

If your soil has a low ph, adding lime is beneficial. You don’t want to add it if your soil is high.  To know for sure you need to do a soil test.  If you feel you should fertilize, use a fertilizer for tomatoes and follow instructions.
Cucumbers benefit from a fertilizer that is low in nitrogen and high in phosphorus and potassium. A balanced fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 5-10-10 or similar, or a fertilizer specifically formulated for tomatoes and vegetables, is recommended.

Again adding fertilizer without a soil yeast may be a waste of money and may cause problems if you end up over fertilizing.

To learn how and where to send a soil test, go to extension.umn.edu and search soil tests.
