Leaf distortion #907729

Asked June 29, 2025, 5:01 PM EDT

What is causing my tomato plants to have these mis-shapen leaves? Is it leaf roll or something else? I cannot see any insects on either side of the leaves or stems. I have 3 tomatoe plants out of 6 that do not look quite right, All are planted in containers. I've attached pictures of each.

Expert Response

It looks like herbicide damage. If chemicals of any sort were sprayed or used close to these plants, it may have become airborne due to the heat and wind.  The same thing can happen if fertilizer , even water soluble, was poured over the plants.  As you have ruled out insects, that is the only possibility I can think of.  Give them TLC and hopefully they will outgrow this and develop new leaves.
