Brown patch on Tall Fescue #907709

Asked June 29, 2025, 1:33 PM EDT

After the evening thunderstorms and then days of extreme heat it looks like Brown patch has grown over a big section. I see that BP normally infects the blades only - is it reasonable to think this will recover when temps and humidity decrease?

Expert Response

Yes, turf typically recovers after a Brown Patch infection (especially when the turf also goes summer-dormant, like tall fescue). Potential overlapping causes of browning can include Red Thread (left over infections from spring) and one or more leaf spot diseases. In either case, use of a fungicide should not be needed, and come autumn, cool-season turf should outgrow any remaining damage.
