Erosion control #907651

Asked June 28, 2025, 5:32 PM EDT

What is an inexpensive way to control erosion of a tall, sandy and small rocky hill that gets constant sun? Deer and snakes are a concern. Soil gets worse when I try to plant vegetation.

Rio Blanco County Colorado

Expert Response

The hill is 70+ feet long and steep. Soil is sandy and has little sandstone bits of rocks.  Some wild grasses are growing.  It is a high deer traffic area.  Too difficult to plant anything because of dirt erosion.  Can’t afford a landscaper or engineer so will have to do something myself.  Looking for affordable resolution.

Hello. Attached is a CSU fact sheet on controlling soil erosion. (It says after a fire, but you could try some of these methods.
