Hello,
I applaud your efforts to regenerate aspen on your property. However, aspen are notoriously difficult to propagate from seed. Their seeds are tiny, lightweight, generally have low viability, and have specific germination requirements. Not impossible to grow from seed - but often unsuccessful.
I recommend buying conservation grade seedlings from a reputable tree nursery. These seedlings are typically only a few dollars apiece and are grown to maximize transplanting success. The Park County Extension office is planning on hosting a tree sale in the spring, which is the best time to plant. I recommend reaching out to Elaina there to express your interest in ordering trees. Her email is: <personal data hidden>
I have a few questions to help me understand your needs: Why do you want to reproduce aspen trees - are they in decline or sparse? Are aspen trees currently growing where you want them? Do you know about how many trees you would like to plant or how large an area you would like to plant?
Best Regards,
