Best lawn watering time #906253

Asked June 18, 2025, 12:40 PM EDT

I am looking for information what the optimal watering times are for lawns. I did see the great information online but was not able to see exact times. Would 10pm to 6am be good?

Expert Response

Morning is the best time for watching. In the heat of the day is least efficient due to evaporation. One inch of water per week is recommended, including any rain.

Yes, I did read on the extension site that mornings are best. What about evenings? We are trying to give our residents a range for watering and are wondering what the most appropriate range would be. Thank you

The turf experts do not recommend watering in the afternoon or evening. Wet leaves /grass is the cause of fungal diseases therefore, avoid watering when the grass will remain wet for extended time. I would suggest a time frame of 5:00 am until noon. I hope this is helpful!
