The best control for thrush is proper sanitation. Be sure that the horse’s hooves are cleaned daily. If the horse is housed in a stall, be sure the stall is cleaned daily with removal of wet spots and manure. If the horse is housed outdoors with a run-in shed for shelter, that area should be cleaned periodically to help minimize the buildup of organic matter. In addition, it is important to have a good relationship with a farrier and veterinarian when working through cases of thrush.
