Asked June 12, 2025, 1:21 PM EDT

My neighbor planted bamboo before they moved. Now it is overtaking my yard. Please help me to eradicate it from my yard. Any information on how I can remove it all and prevent it from spreading or professional company that can do it for a reasonable price. Thank you.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Planting bamboo near one's property line is an unneighborly thing to do!

There are a number of removal methods, and in all likelihood, you may need to employ multiple methods. Also, as the below article notes - you won't be able to remove it completely without working with the adjacent landowner. If they don't want to remove their bamboo, you would need to work on containment and creating a root barrier between the yards to keep it from spreading into your yard again.

This article on 'Containing and Removing Bamboo' from the University of Maryland Extension explains how bamboo grows and provides great information on different methods to remove it.  https://extension.umd.edu/resource/containing-and-removing-bamboo/
