Blight on Plant Leaves #904918

Asked June 08, 2025, 7:34 PM EDT

There is this purple blight at least this is what I am calling it on some of the plants in our garden, I do nto know that plant name however. I attached two picture, front and back. Please let me know what this may be and if this is dangerous to the plant and if I can do anything to prevent or treat it.

Expert Response

Hi,

This looks like some minor damage caused by an insect. The plant reacts to the feeding by making a small growth similar to a bug bite on humans or a benign tumor.

The leaves look like black-eyed susan leaves (are they forming yellow flowers yet?). They are native plants, and the insect feeding is harmless to the overall health of the plant, so if the spots are bothering you cosmetically, you could pull off those leaves, and more should grow through the season.
