Invasive Plant #903454

Asked May 29, 2025, 1:47 PM EDT

I spread new loam on my lawn last summer and hydroseeded it. The grass grew fine last fall. I spread more seed, pelletized lime and fertilizer this spring and since have notice these plants are sprouting up everywhere. If you could help me identify them and maybe advise me how to get rid of them I would appreciate it. Thanks, Wayne

Hello Wayne,

Thanks for reaching out to the UNH Extension Yard and Garden Infoline. From your pictures, it appears that the weed in question is spotted ladysthumb (Persicaria maculosa) and it is a common non-native weed that exists in all of the continental US.

For more information about this weed see this resource from Cornell-

For control methods see this resource from Michigan State Extension-

I hope this helps and please ask if you have any further questions!
