Lilly of the Valley #903431

Asked May 29, 2025, 12:05 PM EDT

Are these very toxic and need to be removed? I work at a Long Term care facility and we have a resident who is concerned.

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

Thanks for the question. Research shows that all parts of Lily of the Valley are poisonous. In general, they are safe to have in your gardens. The biggest risk is to children or pets. Particularly, if ingested in large quantities. To be safe: do not eat any parts, wash your hands after handling, and do not drink the water from a vase of cut flowers.
