Hi,
Can you tell me what has caused evergreens to turn brown over the last winter?
Are the trees dead? If there is a small amount of damage, could they come back?
Thank You.

Expert Response
Without more specific information as to type of evergreens, sun/shade, irrigation and soil, I can only give you general help. It sounds like winterburn. Evergreens lose moisture all winter because they still have their foliage but cannot take any replacement water up because the ground is frozen. That it why we recommend watering them until the ground is frozen. Also, if they are exposed to winter sun and/or winds, it again can cause this problem. Some evergreens are more tolerant than others and less prone to damage. A burlap protective shield or loose wrapping with burlap helps. Depending on how severe the dead needles are, your tree may recover. Don't be in a hurry to start cutting off branches, Give you tree a chance to try to recover first.
