Thank you for contacting us! Yes, you can divide Hemerocallis (daylilies) in early May in Colorado, especially as new growth emerges. In fact, spring, when new shoots are coming out, is considered a good time to divide daylilies, according to PlantTalk Colorado. You can also divide them in late summer or early fall, according to Iowa State University and Fort Collins Nursery.
However daylilies bloom June to Aug. The closer to the bloom you divide them the more likely stress from the division is to prevent the bloom. If you can't divide them in the next week or so, it would be better to wait until fall. Happy gardening!
