What is the best way to add eggshells from my backyard chickens to my compost pile?

The information I’ve found consistently says it’s okay to just add them, as this Extension Service article says. I find recommendations to break them up so water doesn’t sit & rot in a half-shell. Some people wash, dry, and grind them, like in a blender, before adding to compost. They take a year or more to break down and finely crushing means they are not visible in the compost when you use it. Here’s an article about composting in general. I did find this set of training slides which says on #25 to wash egg shells.
