Fettilizing burning bush plants #898250

Asked April 22, 2025, 5:43 PM EDT

I have a row of burning bush shrubs, planted in September 2019, and all doing well. Each Spring I have applied Holly-Tone fertilizer to them, and then mulched. I'm wondering if after 6 years they still need yearly fertilizing. Thank you.

Hi!
I would not expect that your burning bushes need much if any fertilizer anymore.
This is a good fact sheet from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources: https://ohiodnr.gov/discover-and-learn/plants-trees/broad-leaf-trees/burning-bush-Euonymus-alatus
Another fact sheet from Penn State Extension acknowledges the invasive nature of burning bushes: https://extension.psu.edu/burning-bush
In any case, unless the shrubs are not going well in a particular year, you can safely skip the fertilizer. I have one and have never fertilized it.
Best of luck.
