One or two aerations per year? #896831

Asked April 09, 2025, 2:58 PM EDT

HOA community lawn; sprinkled bluegrass. Is once a year aeration in spring adequate for the lawn? Is a second fall aeration a benefit to the lawn? Would you aerate twice a year?

Jefferson County Colorado

Expert Response

Hello, and thank you for your inquiry.

Generally speaking one annual core aeration is necessary in Colorado lawns every year.  If the turf in the area is stressed or has heavy foot traffic, twice a year is recommended.  Aeration can be done in spring or fall - when the turf isn't frozen or overly wet.
