Moss #894400

Asked March 14, 2025, 11:38 AM EDT

Over the past five years I am getting a substantial amount of moss in my lawn. My neighbors also have large areas of moss in their yards. The moss is in sunny and shaded areas. The amount of moss has increased every year. Is there a new moss taking over? Thanks Kennan Hudson

Expert Response

Greetings Kennan,

It is the time of year where we may start seeing vegetation that prefers moist environment. Some moss will live in shady or sunny areas. I found a great factsheet from OSU that discusses this moss and steps you can take to remedy. Many of the provided solutions include increasing drainage and filling areas where there is bare soil to prevent the moss from takin over. There are commercially available products, but OSU recommends consistent management will alleviate the problem over time. Please check out this page for more info and let me know if you have any additional questions!

Great job.  One little typo "takin" over.

Are you ready to be added to the main group?

Thanks again.
