pollinator garden for senior living community #894304

Asked March 13, 2025, 11:40 AM EDT

We are a non-profit senior living community in Brooklyn Center partnering with Girl Scouts looking to create a pollinator garden in a 75' x 5' space. We have questions and need help knowing how to prepare our space for planting. Currently it's full of cattails and weeds. The space floods so we may need to re-route water, put in fill or do something else to make the space suitable for planting. Is there a master gardener volunteer who can help us? Another project might be an intergenerational project like Gardening and Grand Friends that I saw on your site. If a master gardener might be interested in helping us with this that would be great!

Expert Response

Hi Zoe,

Thanks for reaching out — it sounds like a fun project! I would recommend contacting the Hennepin County Master Gardener group. Here is their website, which also includes a phone number and email: https://hennepinmastergardeners.org/. They will be able to connect you with local Master Gardeners that might be interested in volunteering to help with your garden preparation.

You may also wish to reach out to the Douglas County Master Gardener group to inquire about the “Gardening and Grand Friends” program. Here is their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/dcmastergardener/

Have fun and good luck!
