Gardening program? (Homesteading) #894237

Asked March 12, 2025, 2:48 PM EDT

Hi I'm wondering if there's any programs to learn about agriculture and livestock. I plan I starting a homestead and want to have as much knowledge under my belt as I can before I get started.

Hi Sam,

We offer a number of different programs and training opportunities on agriculture and livestock.  Most of those can be accessed at our Agriculture website: Agriculture

If you click on "events" in the "View Information by Type" bar, you'll see a number of different programs listed.  A lot of programs are offered during the winter months though, specifically January and February with some finishing out into March.  There are also field days in the summer that get advertised on that website as well.

A bit further down the page, there's a number of different category tiles that offer information on more specific topics.  Within each page there's a similar "View Information by Type" bar that you can click on events to see what's upcoming.  There's often recordings to previous webinars or in-person programs.  And that's all in addition to articles and publications or even online courses that may be available.  In fact, if you see "Classes" as an option in the information bar, there's usually some online programs or may also be some in-person programs listed.

You can also reach out to educators or specialists within the different category tiles by clicking on "People."  In the Jackson area we have a number of educators that you could speak with about local options that are offered during the year: Staff - Jackson County.

Hopefully that gives you a good first start.  If you've got more specific questions that I could help with, please let me know.
