Dragon Fruit #892963

Asked February 22, 2025, 1:28 PM EST

Can this succulent be grown in Ohio as a winter house plant and taken out when there is no frost risk? Would it ever fruit if treated such a way? There are offers for seeds I am tempted to buy but don't want a complete waste of my time and space.

Expert Response

Yes Dragon fruit can be grown indoors and taken outside once the weather is appropriate. Seeds should be started indoors in a succulent cactus based soil and grown under a good grow light source. The preferred way is by cuttings., this has the best success rate. When the fruit blossoms it will need to be hand pollinated. Make sure that you have two different varieties of Dragon fruit to get good results. The flowers only bloom at night so it is best to grow under grow lights that an be turned off so the flowers will open at night. review the below sources for more information to make the best decision for you needs.
