GARLIC, Late Planting #890406

Asked December 01, 2024, 7:08 AM EST

I held off putting in garlic because our church garden received a large load of new fill on November 22. Next week was holiday. Now temps have dropped to 26F and ground is frozen. When the ground thaws, can I still plant garlic bulbs and get a 2025 crop? Thank you.

Expert Response

You should plant it as soon as possible. Only the top 1-2 inches of the ground is frozen, so you should be able to dig further down enough to plant with a hoe, trowel, or other tool.
