The tree will need to come inside for the winter, probably within the next few weeks or sooner. (It will depend on overnight temperatures and when we experience frosts/freezes.) Citrus are not reliably winter-hardy in Maryland, and are kept as houseplants during the colder months. Our Growing Dwarf Citrus web page provides tips for indoor care, including keeping the ambient temperature on the cooler side, providing enough humidity, and only watering once the soil an inch or more deep into the container (the depth depends on container size) becomes fairly dry to the touch. Providing supplemental light with grow lights can help overwinter the plants with less stress than natural light alone, even if it's in a sunny window. This is because our days are so short during winter that indoor plants don't typically get enough light energy to support growth; they can just maintain what growth they already have, usually, and some leaf shed in the weeks after being brought indoors is perfectly normal as part of the adjustment process.
