Is there a way I can "hibernate" my fern over the winter? I have no luck bringing them into my house. Thanks

Hello Patrice,

Thank you for using Ask Extension. Is it a Boston fern that you'd like to overwinter?  If so, the Boston Fern is considered a tender fern and won't survive temperatures below 30 degrees. You could leave your fern outside in a very protected, southern facing direction and heavily mulch it, but the odds of it surviving an Ohio winter would be extremely low.

You mentioned that you haven't been successful with bringing it indoors to overwinter.  Maybe you can give it one more try. First, give your fern a good prune. Allow the plant to dry out before bringing it indoors. Choose a cool location such as a basement or garage to store the plant. The plant will be dormant for the season and will only need watering once a month.

I hope this helps.
