Native and other plants for moths #881015

Asked August 11, 2024, 12:24 PM EDT

What Oregon native plants does research suggest might best attract local moths to our garden west of the Cascades? Thanks for your help!

Thank you for your question, Stephen.   Most of the OSU research is concentrated on pollinators such as bees, rather than on moths.   This WSU resource lists PNW moths and, if you research each of the species, you can find what plants are required during their life cycles:  http://pnwmoths.biol.wwu.edu/about-moths/faqs/
Here is the only OSU moth-related resource I could find:  https://blogs.oregonstate.edu/gardenecologylab/2021/11/29/top-10-oregon-native-plants-for-pollinators-week-2/

I hope this is helpful.  Good luck!
