Expert Response
Do you have a list of companies that sell peanut seeds or plants, either in Maryland or on-line?
Extension doesn't collect information regarding company offerings or availability, so unfortunately no, we don't have a list to share. Some garden centers that sell a variety of vegetable plants in spring and early summer (inventory is probably depleted by now except for cool-season crops) can carry peanut starter plants, though we don't know which specific nurseries those would be, so you'd need to ask them directly if it's something they tend to stock when it's available.

UMD does not have Maryland-specific home garden cultivation information for peanuts, but we can share other resources that might be helpful. Peanuts require a long growing season; fortunately, Maryland's growing season (spring frost to fall frost) is long enough, at least if a peanut crop is not planted too late. You can start indoors (about 5-8 weeks before the planting date) and transplant out after the last frost, around early or mid-May. Look for early-maturing varieties where possible if you are concerned about having enough time for crop maturation.
