Crabgrass eradication and soil prep for Spring planting #880123

Asked August 04, 2024, 12:04 PM EDT

I'm conceren about damaging the soil while clearing crabgrass to make a flower bed in the Spring. I suppore a non-chemical clearing by hand is best but perhaps an chemical might need less elbow grease for this old man. Thanks in advance, you guys are the tops! John

Thank you for your question. I will be very glad to answer it. However it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY that we are dealing with crabgrass and not quack grass. The remedial procedures for them are quite different. For instance, crabgrass is an annual and it will die shortly. Little might be served by removing it now. Quack grass is a perennial and will persist inro 2025. To save both of us time, please look at the following regarding how to distinguish crab grass from quack grass. I will rely upon your judgement in formulating my answer. The best and most efficient way to proceed is for you to send me a picture of the grass you want to eliminate. That way we’ll be on the same page.
