Dying Sugar Maple tree #879979

Asked August 02, 2024, 8:46 PM EDT

I've had 5 Sugar Maples dye all in on spot. All within 10' to 15' of each other.. I've cut down the 5 but now a 6th one in the same area is dying, i plan to cut this one as well. They start dying from the top and move down the tree rapidly. My problem is that the whole surrounding area are Maples. Any idea what can be done to stop this???

Expert Response

Hi,

Maples are struggling all over Minnesota. They're especially prone to girdling roots, where  trees live a few years and then essentially strangle themselves. This results from being planted too deeply and not loosening or severing roots that are circling in young potted trees.

Going through possible causes on this website may help you figure out what's happened:

Hope this helps. Good luck.
