Non invasive lattice growing plant ideas #879892

I live near Longmont, Colorado and am looking for some privacy options for plants that will grow up a lattice. However, I am very concerned about introducing invasive plants to the area and my yard. I've seen my mother's garden in Maryland get overrun with kudzu and english ivy and want to avoid a similar fate.

Hi Maura,
Thank you for your question about non-invasive plants for a lattice. The first thing you'll want to make sure is the lattice strong enough to support the type of plant you will want to establish. Wood trellis can get brittle in our climate, but can support annuals and perennials that are herbaceous or die-to-the-grown in winter. Metal trellis are better for long term growth of woodier vines.
Here are some suggestions:
Annuals: herbaceous and good for wood trellis
-Morning glories
-sweet peas
-scarlet runner bean
Perennial
-Roses - woody
-Trumpet Vine - woody
-Clematis - herbaceous
-Honeysuckle - semi-woody
Thank you,
Lisa
