Curing Garlic #878711

Asked July 25, 2024, 10:59 AM EDT

Successfully growing garlic for several years. We dig and hang on a grid in basement with dehumidifier nearby. I usually leave for several weeks. Going camping soon (yay Vermont State Parks !) . It has hung about two weeks and leaves seem dry. Normally I'd cut the leaves, trim roots and tidy it up and put in bags in another week or so. Question. Is it OK to leave it there three more weeks- total 5 weeks ? Dehumidifier will be off while we are away. Dry basement anyway, it just helps with humidity. Or go ahead and process it and hang in mesh bags which is my preferred way to store. Thanks !

Good morning Debra

It's generally okay to leave garlic hanging for a total of five weeks, especially if the leaves seem dry already. Garlic can continue to cure and dry without the dehumidifier, particularly if your basement is dry.
