Well Water Testing #878105

Asked July 21, 2024, 11:54 AM EDT

Can I bring a sample of well water into my local extension service? What do I bring? 1/2 cup in clean jar? I use the well water for irrigating my garden. I’m having some problems with plants like tomatoes and beans. I wonder if there is something in the water causing the curling.

Expert Response

Hello,

We offer free Nitrate testing at the following county offices: Linn, Benton, Lane, Lincoln, Polk, and Marion counties. These offices can only offer testing for nitrate, so if you are looking for additional testing or are located farther away from these counties you will need to go to a private lab.

If you are just looking for a free well water test for nitrate at one of the offices listed above a 1/2 cup of unfiltered well water in a clean container is all that you need. Testing takes about 10 minutes.
