Russian sage #877812

Asked July 18, 2024, 3:18 PM EDT

How can I control the runners of my numerous Russian sage. We have a layer of barrier and rock but nothing deters their growth. Roundup is is toxic to the plant and burning is arduous. Any suggestions?

Expert Response

Russian sage can spread by seed and by runners. If you want to keep the main plant, your best bet is to remove the runners as they come up. Every year, we have to cut our Russian sage way back in our flower bed, otherwise it would take over.
