This snake crawled into a home, shed its skin and the owner wants to know what kind of snake is hiding in her home. Consensus here is a black or king snake. Opinion? Thanks.

Expert Response
Homeowner added the snake is beige with brown spots and definitely does not think it's a black snake.
It's hard to guess without a sense of scale (size) and from the shed skin itself. Its behavior suggests a Ratsnake, and they can be lighter in color while juveniles. Kingsnakes often eat other snakes, so we doubt one is exploring indoors, though to be fair, they can also prey on mice and a few other small animals. Since this is outside of the realm of our expertise, someone can inquire with wildlife biologists at the MD Department of Natural Resources. An email can be sent to <personal data hidden> (especially if you want to share photos) or, if you would like to speak to someone, they have a Wildlife and Heritage Service phone number at<personal data hidden>. The phone line is staffed during regular business hours, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, except state holidays and weekends.
