Hi,
Thanks for reaching out to Ask Extension with your questions about mowing and watering your lawn.
I think your question is asking whether its best to mow your lawn before or after watering it, is that correct? I assume when you ask about the timing, you mean the timing of the irrigation cycle (or do you mean the timing between watering and mowing)?
The best times of the day to water your lawn is either late in the evening or early in the morning, when evaporation and wind are less likely to occur.
The frequency and amount of water your lawn needs will be dependant on many factors such as your soil type (clay or sand), your irrigation system, and other site conditions (shady or sunny, flat or sloped lawn, etc) and the time of year (May and September irrigation should be much less than July and August irrigation due to the heat of summer).
It's best not to mow your grass when it is wet, so if you mow on an irrigation day, wait for your lawn to dry out first and don't mow after heavy rains.
Please take a moment to read our Lawn Care factsheet below. It will give you a lot more information about these topics and how to properly maintain all aspects of your Colorado lawn.
