Coral carpet sedum #877558

Asked July 16, 2024, 10:01 PM EDT

My coral carpet sedum flowered and it seems the succulent part of the plant is now gone. You can see in the picture the middle is now just woody stems. There used to be the green and red succulent sedum there before it flowered. Is this normal?

The second picture is another plant where the succulent part of the plant is still there with the flowers rising above it.

Thank you for reaching out to ask2.extension.

Some of the ground cover sedums tend to do that.  It could be due to the ground it’s growing on or it’s possible to have a grub or something in the soil.  Your best bet will be to cut off the flowers/stems when it’s done blooming and see what you have.  Even though sedums tend to be succulents, they do need water, especially if they are fairly new plants.

I can’t say if this is normal or not. Plants do tend to do what they want and we’ve had a very different spring/early summer. If you end up with a dead spot, you could try moving some of the plant that is spreading out into that area

I’m sorry I can’t be more definite.  I have sedums that die off in the original area, but come up in others.  Some varieties tend to do better than others.
