Raspberry abnormality #876608

Asked July 10, 2024, 7:37 AM EDT

I have one raspberry plant that has some red, spiky looking things where the raspberries should be. I think I may have seen this once before but I'm not sure. You can see immature raspberries on other plants nearby. Have you ever seen this before? Any idea what it is? I notice the leaves are a lighter color than the other raspberry plants in my plot.

Expert Response

Hi Randall!

The spiked plant is actually a separate plant called a wineberry. The other ones in the background looked like regular old raspberries.

Thank you very much!  I looked them up and you are certainly correct. Mystery solved.
