Look for annuals that have short times from germination to bloom and continue to bloom as days shorten and temperature drop.
I have had success with Cosmos sulphureus 'Diablo' (65-70 days to bloom from sowing) and Dwarf French marigolds (60-70 days).
You might get some zinnias to work as well.
You might want to try some in seed trays and some direct sown to see what works best thus season, with the heat.
