Hello, I’m in the process of planting poppy plants in Leadville, Colorado. Many of the homes have an orange/red poppy plants in their yards. Do you know the Poppy plant variety grown in Leadville?. Any information on attaining this variety and planting … would be helpful. Thank You Mark Shanklin

Oriental poppy (Papaver orientale) is a commonly grown perennial poppy that is very cold hardy (hardy down to USDA zone 3). It comes in variety of colors, including orange and red.

Icelandic poppies (Papaver nudicaule) are also commonly grown here and are very cold hardy. They are a short lived perennial that will self seed if allowed.

Corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas) is a self-seeding annual poppy that can be grown here, it prefers cool weather so it should do well in Leadville.
