How can I scientifically identify an heirloom apple? #874786
Asked June 26, 2024, 11:52 AM EDT
Hello,
I have two very old apple trees on my property that could potentially date back to the 1800's given local accounts of this area once being an apple orchard back then. They produce excellent tasting apples for both eating and for use in baked items. I have the intentions of producing grafts from both trees to populate a new orchard. Is there a professional service available that could identify the variety from a provided sample?
Thanks!

Hello Steve,
I think your best bet is to reach out to the Foundation Plant Services at UC Davis (Foundation Plant Services (ucdavis.edu)).
