I live in the hilltop area of Columbus and have a lot of mantids in my area, mostly Chinese ones. I have always considered them beneficial overall.
I have 2 questions:
Is it recommended to exterminate them if they're populous?
I've never seen one of this color before (see attached). It appears reddish. What type is this?

I do not recommend that you eliminate them. While they are general feeders, they are considered beneficial. They also can have variable coloring. Here is a fact sheet on them.
