Flying Insect in House #874412

Asked June 24, 2024, 11:27 AM EDT

I have had a flying insect in my house that appears infrequently, 6 time in 2 years. It stings or bites, painfully. It is quite large. I have searched my attic crawl spaces for a nest and have sprayed them with insect killer. the majority of sightings are in the bathroom, so I believe they may be coming through the fan.

Expert Response

The insects are paper wasps.  They are building nests and raising young at this time of year.  They often build their nests under eaves or rafters.

Paper wasps sometimes enter buildings in the fall seeking winter shelter after which they may emerge on warm days and buzz or walk around sluggishly indoors.

You might be right about the wasps gaining entry through the fan.
