What plant to replace scrub roses with rosette disease #874314

Asked June 23, 2024, 4:15 PM EDT

I have a row of scrub roses that have rose rosette disease (RRD). Would I be able to plant azaleas in the same spoint or would it also be affected by the rose rosette disease? I understand the mites that cause RRD would be in the soil so I want to plant something there that will work.

Expert Response

Hello Kimberly,

You can definitely plant azaleas!

Rose Rosette Disease does not affect azaleas or any other plant besides roses.  Anything not in the Rosa genus will do well in that spot.  Here is a link for a bit more detail:  https://extensiongardener.ces.ncsu.edu/2020/03/rose-rosette-virus-flower-killer/

Good luck and thank you for contacting our office.
