New Tree of Heaven sprouts #872810

Asked June 12, 2024, 1:53 PM EDT

We recently had new mulch put down in our garden beds. Now we are seeing countless new Tree of Heaven sprouts in the mulch beds. I am pulling the plants one by one but wonder if the seeds were in the mulch. Over the past year, we have been working hard to eradicate the Tree of Heaven from our property using triclopyr for hack and squirt and basal bark treatment for the larger plants and full grown trees. These new growths appear to be seedlings, not suckers.  Thank you.

Thank you for your question.

After some research, I have not found any examples of mulch containing Tree of Heaven seeds.

As you know, pulling the entire plant as young as possible is the best way to eradicate Tree of Heaven as long as you pull up the entire plant. Below is set of links that may be of use to you.
