What is wrong with my oak tree? #872217

Asked June 08, 2024, 5:15 PM EDT

My white oak tree is 4 years old. It is planted near water in Stearns County. We noticed this weekend that something is eating its leaves. Any ideas? The tree also looks very wilted.

Expert Response

Check your tree to see if insects are present, and then look at the photos in the attached link to see if any insects you find match those in the photos.  Please send us a photo if you do find the insects.

Oak wilt is another concern.  It's caused by an invasive fungus and usually results in death of the tree.  Hopefully the wilting you see is due to insect feeding and not oak wilt.  For information on this issue, see

It's important to find the cause of your tree's problems, so please read the links, examine your tree carefully and get back to us.
